St Benedict the Moor Chapel is a table for the poor and those who hunger for justice. We celebrate "God Among Us" with all people. St. Ben's was established as St. Benedict the Moor Mission in 1909 with Fr. Cyril Kufner, OFM Cap. as its first pastor. Servant of God Stephen Eckert, OFM Cap. was pastor at St. Benedict the Moor from 1913 until his premature death in 1923. An early champion of human rights, Fr. Eckert expanded St. Ben's to include a boarding and day school and other programs for Milwaukee's growing black community.

In 1970, St. Benedict the Moor began hosting the Loaves and Fishes Community Meal. The tradition continues under the auspices of our sister ministry, Capuchin Community Services (CCS). CCS, through the St. Ben's Community Meal program, offers a hot meal six nights per week along with wrap-around services throught its front door ministry.
